The JAYS Turtle Stretcher
In 7th grade my team and I competed in the eCybermission competition
where we were tasked with identifying a problem in our local community and
engineering a solution to it.
We identified a problem with the
transportation of Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles from beaches to rescue centers
where the turtles were dying from hypothermia on the transport. We decided
to create a stretcher that would keep the turtles warm and protected
during the drive.
Our biggest challenge was figuring out a way to
maintain their temperature without heating them up too much. In the end we
decided to use emergency blankets which would help keep the turtles warm
without actively heating them up.
